Experiencing Summer, Fall and Winter in Canada as a Newcomer
Summer was a season I really enjoyed in Canada.
The weather was an adjustment. Alongside that, I was discovering things I liked about the different times of year.
Some of my memories are about going out and spending time with people. Others are simply things I liked seeing around me.
Summer Brought Opportunities to Go Out
I enjoyed the summer weather and having opportunities for outings.
Picnics, community gatherings and chances to meet people from different backgrounds were among the things I associated with summer in Canada. There were places to go and different experiences to enjoy.
Summer also gave me opportunities to try foods from other cultures.
For another newcomer, I would look for activities that interest you in the area where you live. You do not have to choose the same outings as someone else to find something you enjoy.
Fall Stood Out Because of the Colours
The trees were one of the things I particularly liked about fall.
Orange, red and green leaves made the season beautiful to look at. Those colours are a clear part of my memory of experiencing fall in Canada.
The weather felt cold to me too. I could appreciate how lovely the trees looked while still noticing the change in temperature.
Winter Was Cold, and I Enjoyed the Christmas Lights

The winter cold was not easy for me. Of these three seasons, it was the coldest in my experience.
There were also winter sights I enjoyed, especially trees decorated with Christmas lights. Seeing those lights as I went around was beautiful.
What I Would Tell Another Newcomer About the Seasons
Look at the weather for the particular place where you will be living.
Canada covers different climates, so one person’s experience will not describe every location. The Government of Canada’s land and climate guide gives a broad introduction to the seasons, including differences in winter conditions between regions.
For day-to-day plans, use a local forecast rather than relying only on a general description of a season. That gives you more useful information when deciding how to prepare for an outing.
I would also leave room to notice what you enjoy. My memories include summer outings, fall colours and winter Christmas lights. Someone else may find different parts of the year appealing.
You can prepare for the weather and still be curious about the place you are getting to know.
